FAMOTIDINE
It is a highly sensitive and potent H2 receptor antagonist that competes with histamines at the receptor sites. It inhibitis gastric juice secretion. Famotidine reduces the acid and pepsin content, as well as the volume of basal, nocturnal and sjtimulated gastric secreation.
Indications: Duodenal or begin gastric ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux diseases. Zollinger0ellison synjdrome.
DOSAGE: duodenal or benign gastric ulcer; 20mg twice daily or 40mg daily at bed time for 6-12 months. Zollinger-ellison syndrome: 20mg 4 times daily initially Max. 480 mg daily.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity.
SPECIAL-PRECAUTIONS: Dosage should be reduced in patients wit renal failure. Possibility of gastric malignancy should be excluded.
Pregnancy: Use only, if clearly indicated.
Lactation: Should not be used.
Elderly: No special problem.
SIDE-EFFECTS: Headache, dizziness, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and anorexia.
DRUG-INTERACTIONS: Absorption reduced when used in combination with antacids.
