Sodium Ferric Gluconate

INDICATIONS: Iron deficiency in patient of chronic hemodialysis receiving erythropoietin.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: HypersensitivitytoSod. ferric gluconate complex. Evidence of iron overload.

SAFETY PROFILE: Should be avoided in iron overload patients.

ADVERSE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, flatulence abdominal pain, fever, flu-like syndrome, tachycardia, bradycardia, myalgia, pain at injection site.

DRUG INTERACTIONS : Absorption of concomitantly administration of iron preparation might be reduce.

DOSAGE : 10ml (125mg elemental iron) diluted in 100ml of 0.9% NaCI injection given intravenously over 1 hour. Most patients will require a minimium cumulative dose of 1g elemental iron, given over 8 sessions at sequential dialysis treatment.
