Iron (III) Hydroxide Polymaltose Complex (IPC)
It is a water soluble macromolecular complex of poly nuclear iron (III) hydroxide and partially hydrolyses dextrin. The absorption of the ferric iron from IPC is controlled by a feed back mechanism .when IPC comes in contact with the iron binding sites at the mucosal surface .there occurs some physiological change such that IPC releases the required amount of ferric iron which can be actively transported into the mucosal call by a carrier protein and then released for binding to ferritin or transferrin. Adverse effects are less than other forms of iron therapy. IPC should be taken during or immediately after meals.
DOSAGE : Dosages depend on iron deficiency and duration of therapy. To be taken after meals.
