Adefovir dipivoxil
Adefovir dipivoxil is a reverse transcriptase inhibitor. I t is used to treat the infection hepatitis b. Hepatitis b virus can attack to any person by coming in contact with an infected person. Major symptoms of the disease hepatitis b are yellowing of skin and eyes, fatigue, vomiting and abdominal pain. Hepatitis b is an inflammation of liver. If hepatitis b is not treated for long time, it may lead to lung cancer.
ADEFOVIR : It belongs to new class of antiviral drugs called nucleotide analogues.
Indications: HBe-Ag positive and negative chronic hepatitis B, Lamivudine resistant HBV-HIV co-infection, Lamivudine resistant pre-transplant & post-transplant hepatitis B with decompensated liver disease.
Dosage: 10mg per day.
Special precautions: Symptoms of Hepatitis B may worsen if adefovir is stopped suddenly. Monitor kidney functions. Test for HIV before starting treatment with adefovir.
Side effects: Pharyngitis, headache, asthenia, abdominal pain, flu like syndrome & nausea.
