AlENDRONATE SODIUM: It is a third generation bisphosphonate, with a high potential in the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. The bisphonates dose not undergo enzymatic degradation by skeletal pyrophosphatases and persists in the skeleton prolonged periods.
Indications: Treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis.
Dosage: 10mg once daily.
Contra indications: Patient with esophageal abnormaltities.
Special Precautions: Patient with acute upper gastrointestinal problem, Hypercalceamia, causes of osteoporosis.
Pediatrics: Should not be given
Pregnancy: Should not be given
Lactation: Should not be given
Elderly: Grater semsotovotu to Alendronate.
Side effects: Abdominal pain nausea, dyspepsia consipation, diarrhoea, oesophageal ulcer faltulence, acid regurgitaion vomiting dysphagia abnormal distention headache, musculoskeletal paun.
Drug Interaction: Calcium supplements and antacids may interfere with the absorption of Alendronate. Aspirin containing compounds may increase the incidences of GI side effects.
