PRALIDOXIME CHLORIDE: The principal action of it is to reactivate cholinesterase which has been inactivated by phosphosrylation due to an organophosphate. The destruction of accumulated acetylcholine can then proceed and neuromuscular functions will again function normally. It also slows the process of aging of phosphorylated cholinesterase to a noneractivitable form & detoxites certain vomiting, visual disturbances, mental confusin postural fainting and circulatory collapse. It can be used as an aversion technique in chronic alcoholics who are motivated and sincerely desire to leave the habit.
Indications: Chronic alcoholism.
Dosage: 1gm on 1st day. 0.75 gm on 2nd day,05 gm on 3rd day & 0.25 gm subsequently, sensitization to alcohol develops after 2-3 hrs. of first dose and lasts for several dys after stopping it.
Contra Indications: Pregnancy, cardiac failure, psychosis or drug addiction Cornoary artery disease.
Special Precautions: Diabetes, epilepsy, renal hepatic or respiratory disease.
Pediatrics: Reduced dose necessary
Pregnancy: Should not be used

Elderly: Reduced dose may be necessary.

Drug Interactions: Enchances effect of chlordiazeposi-de diazepam phenytoin isoniazide anticoagulants.
