Bezafibrate
Bezafibrate is used along with an exercise program and a diet to treat high level of cholesterol. It lowers the level of fats in the blood. The fats in blood are produced naturally. They are also absorbed from food. Bezafibrate treats medical problems caused by cholesterol that gathers in blood vessels. Heart disease is such a major medical problem.
When the level of fats in the blood are highre in blood, they are deposited on the walls of blood vessels. It narrows the blood vessels. Sometimes they are also completely blocked. Chlesterol does not make the prson ill, but it can create servious problem in the long run. Bezafibrate is available in the form of tablets. Bezafibrate is also available as a modified-release preparation. Stomach upset, gas, stomach pain etc may be the minor side effects of bezafibrate.
Technical detail
BEZAFIBRATE: It suppresses endogenous cholesterol synthesis causing the expression of an increased number of specific LDL (low density lipoprotins) receptors and thus an increased catablism of LDL which leads to lower plasma cholesterol. It also suppresses the endogenous synthesis of triglycerides while simultaneously stimulating their catabolism through syntemic lipopretein lipase and hepatic lipase.
Indications : Type lla, IIv, III IV & V hyperlipidaemias resistant to diet alone.
Dosage: 200mg three times daily witty food.
Contra Indications: Gall bladder disease. Pregnancy lactation kidney or livery dysfunction. Nephrotic syndrome.
Side effects: Myalgia, diarrhoea, skin rahses Reversible alopecia decreased libido. G.I upset.
Drug Interaction : Action suophonylurease potentiated.
