EZETIMIBE: It is in a class of lipid-lowering compounds that selectively inhibits the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and related phytosterols. Ezetimibe dose not inhibit cholesterol synthesis in the liver or increase bile acid excretion instead ezetimibe localized and appears to act and the brush border of the small intestine and hinibits the absorption of cholesterol leading to a decrease in the delivery of intestinal cholesterol to the liver This causes a reduction of hepatic cholesterol stores and an increase in clearance of cholesterol form the blood this distinct mechanism is cimplementary ot that of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors
Indications: Primary Hypercholesterolemai Monotheapy combibation therapy with HMG-CoA reductase inhinitors Homozygous Familial hyperholesterolemia (HoFH) Homozygous sitosterolemia
Dosage: 10mg once daily
Contra Indications: Hypersensitivity pregnatn and nursing women.
Special precautions: Hepatic insufficiency car cinogenesis, mutagenesis impairmenta or fertility pregnancy nursing mother.
