SIMVASTATIN: Simvastin, an HMG-CoA reduce tase inhibitor is a choleesterol lowering agent. It is an orally administered prodrug.

Indications: Primary hyperchloesterolemia (typr IIa & IIb hyperlipoprotenemia); Patient with a coronary after disease, for reduction of elevated LDL cholesteril levels in patients with combined hyperchloesterolemia & hyperrglyceridema.

Dosage: Initial dosage: 5-10 mg as a single dose in the evening.
Max recommended dosage: 40mg/day as a single dose in the evening.
Dosage of 20-40mg/day may be necessary in patient with CHD

Side effects: Gastrointestinal problems such as constipation, diarrhoea, dyspepsia flatulence nausea dizziness, fatigue and skin rash.

Contra indications : Hypersensitivity to a simavastain active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevation of serum tranasminases. Pregnancy & lactation

Special Precautions : Patients with unexpalined muscle pain weakness renal failure trauma endocrine & electryyes disorders and uncontrolled seizures

Pregnancy: Safety not established
Lactation: Breast feeding is not recommended
Pediatrics : Safety not established.

Contra indications : Hypersensitivity to simvastatin active liver disease or unexplained presisten etvation of serun transminases.

Drug Interactions: Concurrent use of anticogaulants coumarin of lidadione derivative may in crase bleeding of prothrombin time Concurrent administration of digoxin may cause a slight elevation in serum digoxing cencentration. Concurrent use of cholestyramine of colestripol may decrease the bioavailability simavastain. There is increased risk of rhabodmyolysis and acute renal failure with concurrent use of cyclosporine, Erythormycin Gemfibrozil immunosupprestants or niacin.
