POLICOSANOL: It is a new cholesterol lowering drug; it is mixture of alcohols isolated and purified from sugar cane. It decrease total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein, and increase high density lipoprotein y inhibiting cholesterol synthesis and in creasing LDL processing.
Indications: Improves lipid profile in patients with type-II hypercholesterolemia, type-II diabetes with hypercholesterolemia, postmenopausal women with hypercholesterolemia, postmenopausal women with hypercholesterolemia and combined hypercholesterolemia with abnormal liver function tests. Decrease risk factors of cardiovascular endotherial damage, and smooth muscle cells proilferaton. Ath erosclerosis. Interittent claudication.
Dosage: 10-20mg daily.
Contra Indications: Safety has not established in peadiatric, pregnancy and lactation.
Side effects: Headache, dizziness, polyphagia as thenia, somnolence and insomnia.
