CEFACLOR It is a semi-synthetic cephalosporin having a broad spectrum anti bacterial acticity.

Indication: Otitis media, Upper respiratory infections including pharygitis and tonsillitis. Other ENT infections like acute fhinosinusitis, acute laryngitis, epiglottitis and external otitis. Lower respriatory infections including penumonia and bronchitis (acute bronchitis or excerbation of chronic brochitis). Skin and skin -structure infections including impetigo, pyoderma, cellulitis subctaneous abscess and posttraumatic or post-operative wound infections Urinary tract infection including cystitis and pyelonephritis. Unocomplicate gonococcal urethritis.

Dosage: Adults: 250mg 8 hrly Max 500mg 8hrly
Children: 20mg/kg/day in divided 8 hrly. In serious infections 40 mg/kg/day with 1gm/day.

Contra-indications: Patients with know allergy to cephalosporin.

Special Precautions: In penicillin, sensitive patients, chronic renal failure, Pseudomembarnous colitis, infants less than 1 months.
Pediatrics: Reduced dose necessary because of increased risk of skin reaction.
Pregnancy: No evidence of risk
Lactation: The drug passes into breast milk and may affect the infant.

Side-effects: Hypersensitivity reactions, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting transient hepatitis, eosinophilia, genital pruuitus or vaginitis, reversible interstitial nephritis.

Drug Interactions: Enhance nephrotoxicity or gentamycin and tobramycin. Probenecid slows tubular excretion.
