CEFTAZIODIME: It is a broad spectrum, third generation aprenteral cephalosproin effective against many Gram negative organisms.
Indication : Serious infections of the respiratory tract, E.N.T. skin and soft tissue bone, joints, billary and G.I. tact.U.T.I. Septicaemia, meningibilliary and G.I. tract U.T.I. septicaemia, meningitis. Infections in immunocompromised patients.
Dosage: Adults: 1-6 gm daily in divided doses every 8 or 12 hrs.
Children : Over 1 yr : 30-100 mg/kg body wt per day in 2-3 divided doses. Max 6 gm daily.
Contra-indications : Hypersensitivity to Penicillin or Cephalosporin.
Special Precautions: Meonates and infants, reanl or hepatic impairment, prolongs use.
Pediatrics: Safe.
Pregnancy & Lactating: Use with caution.
Elderly: Decrease dose in case of renal impairment.
Side-effects: G.I. disorders, Pseudomembranouscolitis, candidosis, eosinophilia, netropenia, leucopenia, thrombocytpenia, ris in liver enzymes and blood urea, pain at injection site.
Drug Interactions: Aminoglycosides, fursemide used concomitantly leads to nephrotoxicity. Chloramphenicol antagonises ceftazidime
