MEROPENEM TRIHYDRATE: It is a systhetic carbapenem Beta-Lactum antibitoc for paretral use. It has potent bactericidal action against a borad spectrum of aerobic and anerrobic bacteria.

Indications: Pneumonias, nosocomial pneumonias, intta-abdominal infections, gynecologicla infections, skin and skin structure infections, meningitis, septicaemia and adult febrile neutropenia.

Dosage and administrations: Administratered as a intravenous blous injection over aporximately 5 minutes or by intravenous infusiion over approximately 15-30 minutes iwht compitalbe infusion (50-200mg) fluid.

Adult : Pneumonias, UTI, gynaecological infections, skin and structure infections :500mg 8 hourly. Nosocomial Pneumonias, peritonitis, adult fevrile neutorpenia, speticamia : 1g every 8 hours. Meningitis : 2g every 8 hours.

Children : Over 3 onths and upto 12 years of age 10-12mg/kg every 8 hours. Meningitis : 40mg/kg every 8 hours. Children over 50kg : Adult dose.

Contra Indications: Hypersensitivity to ingredients. Hypersensitivity to penicillins or other beta-lactam antibitoics. Pseudomembranous clitis.

Warning: Dosage should be reduce accordingly in patients with creatinine clearace less than 51ml/min. No dosage guideline is abaliable in hemodialysis and pertoneal dialisis. Monitor ttansaminase and bilirubin levels in patients with hepatic disease. should not be mixed with or added to other durgs.

Special Precautions :
Pediatrics: Safely is not established in patient with Neutrogena or primary/secondary immunodeficiency. Safety is not established in infants under 3 months of age.
Pregnancy: Safety is not established
Lactation: Safety is not established.
Elderly: Safe for elderly with normal renal functions.

Side effects: Serious adverse effects are rare. Local IV injection site reaction, systemic allergic reaction, rash, pruritus, urticaria, abdominal pain,nausea, vomiting diarrhoea, pseudomembranous clitis. Reversible thrombocythaemia, eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia and neutorpenia. Headache, presthesia, convulsions oral and viginal candidiasis.

Drug Interactions: Nephrotoxicd drugs, probenocid, sodum valproate.
