AMPICILLIN WITH SULBACTAM SODIUM: Sulbactam sodium is irreversible betalactamse inhibito thus it increases the activity of ampicillin against bets lactamase producing organisms. Spectrum of activity of this combination of ampicillin with sulbactam sodium producing strains of gram-positive Bacteria staphylococcus aureus, ataphylococcus epidermidis staphylococcus saprophyticus and other strain Streptococcus faecalis, streptococcus pneumoniae, streptococcu pyogenes, streptococcus viridans.
Gram-negative bacteria : Beta-lactamse and non beta-lactmase producing strains of Heamonhilus infeluenzae, Baranhamella Catarrhalis, Escherichia Coli, Neisseria gonorrohea, Proteus mirabillis and other strains of Kelbsiella species, Proteus Vulgaris, Providencia rettgeri, Providencia stuartii, Marganella orgnii.
Anaerobes : Clostridium species, Peptococcus species, Peptostreptococcus pecies, Bacteroides species including B fragilis
Indications : Pre, intra and post operative use for the prevention and treatment of surgical infections, Surgical prophylaxis, intra-abdominal infections, Post-surgical infections, suture infections, Obstetrics and gynecological infections Bone and joint infections, Respiratory tract infections, Gonorrhea, Skin & soft tissue infections, infections in immunocompromised patients
Dosage : I.V. slow injection over or at least 10-15 mins, or in greater dilutions with 50-100 ml of a compatibel diluent as an intravenous infusion over 15-30 mins. It can be administered by deep intra muscular injection. 1.5gm (0.5 gm Silbactam (as sod), 1gm Ampicillin (as sod) to 3gm (1 gm Sulbactam (as sod), 2 gm Ampicillin (as sod) every 6 hrs. Max 4gm per day.
Contra-indications: Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions: Pregnancy, Nursing mother, not in infants and children under age of 12, concurrent use with allopurinol.
Side-effects: Diarrhoea, rash, Gastritis, stomatitis, black hairy tongue, enterocolitis, pseudomem-branous colitis, nausea, vomiting, urticaria, evrythema miltiforme, agranulocytosis.
