VANCOMYCIN: Is a cimplex glycopeptide sound in cultures of Streptomyces Orientalis. It is bactericidal to gram positive cocci and certain gram positive bacill. The mode of action if by impariring postitive bacilli, The mose of acton is by impariring cell membrane permeabilityand RNA synthesis or by inhibition of cell wall synthesisi
Indication: Antibiotic associated colitis, endocarditis, bacteraemia, meningitis, prophylaxi & in cytotoxic durg therapy
Dosage : Adults 50mg every 6 hourly or 1gm every 12 hours by i.v infusion over 60min for 7-10 days children 10mg/kg every 6 hourly or 40mg/kg/day in 3-4 divided doses by slow i.v. infusion over 60min for 7-10 days.
Contraindication : In patients with history of allergy.
Side-effects: Skin reshes re neck flushing . drug fever.
Special Precaution: Pediatrics: Use with caution in neonates.
Pregnancy: Use with caution
Lactain : Use with caution
Elderly: Use with caution.
Drug Interaction: Additive action with other nephrotoxic & ototoxic drugs.s
