Ceftriaxone
Ceftriaxone is used in the treatment of some types of infections that are caused by bacteria like pelvic inflammatory disease (infection of the female reproductive organs that may cause infertility) gonorrhea, meningitis, and infections of the ears, skin, lungs,urinary tract, bones, blood, joints, and abdomen. Ceftriaxone is also used before some operations for preventing infections which may occure after surgery.
Ceftriaxone injection belongs to a category of medications known as cephalosporin antibiotics. It kills the bacterias. Antibiotics cannot cure viral infections of flu, cold or others. Ceftriaxone injection can be given intravenously or intramuscularly.

CEFTRIAXONE:
Indications: Meningitis, speticaemia, Typhoid UTI. Pproplylaxis in surgical infections
Dosage : MENINIGITIS : Adults : 4gm i.v. initially followed by 2 gm i.v. daily for 10 days or 72 hours after fever. Children : 75-100 mg/kg body st for 7-9 days
TYPHOID: Adults: 4gm daily for 2days followed by 2gm daily for 2 days. Children: 75 mg/kg body wt daily for 7 days.
Other conditions: Adults 1-2 gms daily.
Children: 50-75 mg/kg body we daily.
Contra-indications : Hypersensitivity
Special Precautions: Hepatic or renal dysfunctions Neonates.
Pediatrics: Avoid in premature neonates.
Pregnancy & Lection: Use with caution.
Elderly: Decrease dose in case of renal impairment
Side-effects: Diarrhea, hypo-prothromibinaemia pseudomimbraous colitis.
Drug interactions: Disulifiram like reaction with alcohol
