CLARITHROMYCIN: It is a macrolide antibotic with broas spectrum of activity. The mode of action is by binding to so s bosoma unit and suppressing protein synthesis.
Indications: URTI: pharyngitis and sinusitis, LRTI bronchitis & pneumonia, skin & soft tissue infection.
Dosage: Adults 250mg twice daily for 5-14 days. can be increased to 500mg for severe infection.
Contraindication : Hypersensitivity, lactation and pregnancy.
Special Precaution: First trimester of Pregnancy
Pediatrics: Safety in children less than 6 months not established.
Pregnancy: Contraindicated.
Lactation: Safety not established.
Elderly: Dose adjustment need in patient with impaired renal function
Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia.
Drug interaction: Terfenadine results in cardiac arrhythmias. Increras4e the levels of teophyline and carbamazepine.
