Ceftizoxime
Ceftizoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin which is active against anaerobic bacteria., in ceftizoxime the whole C-3 side chain has been removed, unlike other third generation cephalosporins. It prevents deactivation by hydrolytic enzymes .
It’s a cephalosporin antibiotic which is used in the treatment of some types of bacterial infections. It’s not effective in flu, colds or other viral infections. Ceftizoxime given by injecting it into a muscle or infusion into a vein. That’s why a healthcare professional is essential while taking this medicine. This medicine should be taken at regular intervals. Overdose or irregularity may be injurious to health.
Technical detail:
CEFTIZOXIME: Third generation, parenteral Cephalosporin.
Indication: Lower respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue infections, Septicaemia, Severe infections in immuno-compromised patients, UTI. Gonorrhea
Dosage: 1-3 gm 8-12 hrly.
Contra-indications: Hypersensitivity to Penicitins and Cephalosprrints
Special Precautions: Renal impairmetn.
Pediatrics: In children with age upto 3 months
Safety not established.
Pregnancy: Use with caution.
Lactation: Use with caution.
Side-effects: G.I. Disturbances, candidacies esinophilia, neutropenia, teucopenia,thrombo-cytopenia, rise in enzymes and blood urea.
Drug Interactions: Concomitant use of amino glycosides, other cephalosproins, frusemide maycause nephrotoxicity action or oral anticoagulant potentiated.
