KETOCONZOLE: It is the first orally effective broad soectryn antifungal drug, useful in both denatiohytosis and deep mycoses. Its oral absorption is facilitated by gastric acidity.
Indications: Superficial and deep mycoses due to suceptible fungl; Dermatormycosis and infection caused by candida species. Candidura and systemic candidosis.
Dosage: 200mg once or twice daily.
Contra-indications: Children below 2 yrs.
Special Precautions: Liver dysfunction should be given with meals. Drug interaction occurs with anticholinergics, antacides, H2 antagonists, anticogulants, phenytoin, rifampicin, cyclosprin.
Pediatrics: Reduced dose necessary.
Pregnancy: Contraindicated.
Lactation: Contraindicated.
Side-effect: Nausea, vomiting, hepatitis, decreased aandroogn production gybaecinastua, loss of hair, libiodo, oligozooospermia, rashes, G.I. upset
Drug Interactions: Absorption reduced by antacids. H2 receptor antagonists, anticholinegrgics. In crease plasma concetration of cyclosproin. Reduction of anticoagulant activity of warfarin phenytion. Refampicin and isoniazid reduced ketoconazole levels. Concomittant alcohol intake leads to facial fkysgubg abd nausea.
