QUININE SULPHATE : Is an erythrocytic shizonticide, most chloroquine & multi drug resistant strains of P. falciparum are senstivie to it.
Indications: Resistant falciparum malaria, symptomatic relief of muscle cramps, including nocturnal cramps.
Dosage: Adults: 300-600mg three times daily for 5-7 days.
Children: 25 gm/kg/day 8 hourly fir 7 days.
Contra-indications: Pregnancy, lactation tinnitus optic neuritis, myasthenia gravis.
Special Precautions: Arterial fibillation, cinchonism. Haemoglobinuri.Renal or heaptic impaiment
Pediatrics: Dose should be reduced
Pregnancy: May cause defects in the developing foetus.
Lactation: Drug passes in to breast milk.
Side-effects: Cinchonism, acute haemolytic anaemia, tinnitus headache, blurred vision, vomiting diarrhea abdominal pain, vertigo
Drug Interactions: With anti coagulants, Pyrimethamine, digoxin & muscle relaxants.
