Recommanded drugs
KETOTIFEN: It possesses marked anti-anaphylactic properties and is effective in preventing asthmatic attacks but will not abort established attacks of asthma.
Indications : Prophylactic treatment of brachia asthma. Symptomatic treatment of allergic conditions including rhinitis and conjunctivitis.
Dosage : 1 mg twice daily with food. Max. 2 mg twice daily. Children 6 months -2 yrs: 05mg twice daily with food.
Contra-indications : A reversible fall in the thrombosis count in patients receiving ketotifen concomitantly with oral anti-diabetic agents has been observed in a few patients.
Special Precautions : Existing treatment (especially systemic corticosteroids & ACTH) should be continued for a minimum tow weeks after starting ketotifen. Not to operate machinery or vehicles & to avoid alcoholic drink. It may potentate the effects of sedatives, hypnotics, anti-histamines and alcohol
Paediatrics : Safe.
Pregnancy : Should not be used.
Elderly : Safe.
Side-effects : Drowsiness, dry mouth dizziness.
Drug Interaction : Potentate effects of sedatives hypnotics antihistamines and alcohol. Reversible fall in platelet count with concomitant use of oral ant diabetics, others may reverse chlorroquine resistance and potential action of sulphadoxine in acute malaria.
