SALMETROL: It is a selective long acting beta-2 andernoceptor agonist. Provides effective protection against histamine induced bronchodilator (12hrs).
Indication : Reversible airways ovstruction in asthma
Dosage : Adults: 2 inhalations (50 microgram) twice daily. Severe airway obstruction: 4 inhalations (100 micrograms) twice daily.
Contra -Indications : Hypersensitivity.
Special precautions : Patients response should be monitored clinically and by lung function tests. It is not a replacement for real or inhaled corticosteroids but use is complimentary to them. It is not designed to relieve acute asthmatic symptoms.
Paediatrics : Not recommende under 4 years.
Pregnancy : Use only, if clearly indicated.
Lactation : Use only,if clearly indicated
Elderly : safe.
Side-effects : Tremor, tachycardia, subjective palpitations and headache.
Drug Interactions : Hypokalemia with steroid or diuretics. Effects are antagonized by non-selective Bata blockers and less so by cardio selective beta blockers. Ostentation of vascular effects with Mauls and tricycles antidepressants.
