It is a potassium retaining
(sparing) diuretic.
Indication: Hypertensin, oedema due to C.H.F. or cirrhosis or
nephritic syndrome. Because of its antiandrogenic activity, it
is also used in female hirsutism.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Anuria, hyperkalemia, renal
failure, Addison's disease.
SAFETY PROFILE: Pregnancy, drowsiness, ataxia,
gynocomastia and G.I. upset.
ADVERSE EFFECTS : Headache, drowsiness, ataxia,
gynocomastia and G.I. upset.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Hyperkalemia with ACE inhibitors,
Increased conc. Of digoxin and reduced efficacy of warfarin.
