BETAXOLOL: : It is a selective (B1-adrenergic) receptor blocking agent when instilled in eth eye reduces elevated as well as normal intraocular pressure, whether or not accompanied by glaucoma. It dose not have significant membrane stabling (local anesthetic) activity and is devoid of intrinsic sympathomimetic action
Indications : Ocular hypertension and chronic open angle glaucoma.
Dosage : 1 drop instilled in the affected eye (s) twice daily.
Contra indications : Sinus bradycardia greater than a first degree atrioventricular block, carcinogenic shock or a history of overt cardiac failure and in patients with hypersensitivity.
Special Precutions : Not for injection. Diabetes, theyrotoxicosis. History of obstructive pulmonary disease, cardiac failure. Potential additive effect if given with oral B-adrenergic blocking agent. It should be used with a motif to reduced elevated intraocular pressure in angle- closure glaucoma. Pregnant & lactating women, children.
Side effects : Decreased corneal sensitivity. Erythematic, itching, corral punctuate staining dermatitis, anisocoria & photophobia.
Drug interactions : Enhances calcium channel blockers, anesthetics and coniine.
