Candesartan
Candesartan belongs to a class of drugs known as angiotensin receptor blockers that includes valsartan (Diovan), losartan (Cozaar), and irbesartan (Avapro). Candesartan can block the ability of the chemical angiotensin II to increase blood pressure. It is done by constricting or squeezing arteries and veins.
It reduces blood pressure. It also reduces the work of the heart, therefore it is useful for the patients who have heart failure. Candesartan is useful in high blood pressure. This drug can be used alone or by blending with other medicine. It is very effective for heart patients. Candesartan also minimizes the chances of heart failure. Candesartan tablets should be stored at room temperature, between 15 and 30°C
Technical detail:
It is a angiotensin II receptor (type AT1) antagonist and it acts by blocking the vasoconstrictor II by selectively blocking the binding of angoitensin II to the AT1 receptor in many tissues such as vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland.
INDICATIONS: Treatment of hypertension either alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
DOSAGE: Initially 16 mg once daily in patients who are not volume depleted. It may be given once or twice daily with total daily doses ranging from 8 mg to 32mg.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity, pregnancy.
SIDE-EFFECTS: Dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, peripheral oedema, rhinitis, back pain, headache, URTI, coughing, fatigue, vomiting.
Rarely nausea, arthralgia, myalgia, angioedema, rash have been observed.
