Benidipine is a dihydropyridine (DHP) calcium channel blocker with general properties similar to those of nifedipine. Its high affinity combined with slow dissociation from DHP receptors is responsible for prolonged pharmacological effects despite low serum concentration.
INDICATIONS: Hypertension and long-term prophylactic management of angina pectoris.
DOSAGES: Hypertension: 4 mg once daily after breakfast. Maximum recommended dose 8mg once daily.
Angina Pectoris: 4 mg twice daily after breakfast, supper.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Pregnancy, Hypersensitivity.
SIDE EFFECS: Headache, facial flushing, vomiting, palpitation, dizziness, lightheadedness and malaise.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Digoxin, cimetidine, antihypertensive agents. Calcium channel Blockers under subheading antiarrhythmic drugs.
