LOSARTAN POTASSIUM + HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE - TOZAAR-H[TORRENT]
It is an angiotoensin II receptor (type AT) antagonist. Losartan and its principle active metabolite block the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II by selectively blocking the binding of angiotension II to the AT.
INDICATIONS: Mild to moderate hypertension alone or in combination with other antihypertensives.
DOSAGE: 25-100 mg once or twice daily. Starting and maintenance dose: 50 mg once a day. In volume depleted patients. 25 mg once daily.
SIDE-EFFECTS: Diarrhea, dyspepsia, myalgia oedema, dizziness & headache.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Cimetidine increases the AUC OF losartan by about 18%. Risk of hyperkalemia increases with concomitant use of potassium sparing diuretics or potassium supplements.
