Benazepril is an ACE inhibitor with an esterified ethomycarbonyl moiety. It is a highly effective non-sulfhydryl ACE-inhibitor. It is also beneficial in hypertensive patients with concomitant diabetes, congestive heart failure, hyperuricemia, hyperlipidemia or asthma.
INDICATIONS: Treatment of hypertension.
DOSAGE: 10-40 mg once daily.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to ACE inhibitors, history of angioedema.
SIDE-EFFECTS: Headache, dizziness, fatigue, cough somnolence, nausea and postural dizziness.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: Renal disease, renal artery stenosis, hyperkalaemia, anaesthesia, prior treatment with a diuretic, concomitant with potassium sparing diuretics diuretics or potassium supplements.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Patients on diuretics may experience excessive BP reduction, K-sparing diuretics and K-supplements can increase the risk of hyperkalaemia when used with benezepril.
