Cilostazol
Cilostazol is a drug which is used in the alleviation of the symptom of intermittent claudication in a person who is suffering from peripheral vascular disease. Claudication, is caused by narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs with blood. Cilostazol has a different type of mechanism of action than other approved medicines of claudication.
Some medicines similar to cilostazol have miximized the death risks people with congestive heart failure. This medicine works efficiently in the people who does not have this disease. Cilostazol inhibits platelet aggregation and the main effects of this drug are dilation of the arteries supplying blood to the legs and decreasing platelet coagulation.This drug is also approved in the treatment of intermittent claudication.
Technical detail:
It reversibly inhibits platelet aggregation.
INDICATIONS: Intermittent claudication.
DOSAGE: 100 mg twice daily to be taken 30 minutes before or two hours after breakfast and dinner. Initiate therapy at the dose 50 mg twice daily and using with ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin, diltiazem.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity. Congestive heart failure.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: Severe renal impairment.
SIDE-EFFECTS: Diarrhea, increase cough, infection, rhinitis, headache, dizziness vertigo, palpitation, tachycardia, nausea, abnormal stool, flaulencs.
DRUG INTERACTION: Macrolides, Diltiazem.
