GUARGUM ARANULES: Guargum contains a high molocular weight hydrocolloidal polysaccharide. After ingestion, it forms a viscous gel in the gastro-intestinal tract which slows carbohydrate absorption & thus reduce postprandia blood glucose peaks. This stabliisation of blood glucose levels, after, leads to greater diabetic control and may subsequently anable a reduction to be made in insulin or oral hypoglycaemic dosage levels.
Indications: As an adjunct to insulin or oral ghpoglycaemics.
Contra-indications: Not recommended for children. History of esophageal disease or diffeculty in swallowing. Not ingest as dry granules.
Special Precautions: Careful moniltoring, to minimise the dangers of hypoglycemia.
Pediatrics: Should not be used.
Pregnancy & Lactation: Safe
Elderly: Safe.
Side effects: Nausea, feeling of fullness and loss of appetite, flatulence, diarrhea and related gastro, intestinal disturbances.
Drug Interaction: Absorption of other drugs altered.
