CEFEXIME TRIHYDRATE: It is third generation oral cephalosporin, effective against a wide spectrum of sensitive gram positive, gram negative & anaerobic bacterial pathogens including betalactamase producing stains, it has high affinity or penicillin-binding proteins with carrying site of activity. It acts by inhibition of bacteria cell-wall synthesis. The elimination half-life is about 3 hours, with little variation over thaw usual therapeutic dosage range.
Indication; Infections of respiratory, urinary & billiard tract.
Dosage: Adult: 200-400mg daily as single or 2divided doses for 7-14 days
Children: 8mg/kg body-wt daily as a single or 2 div. doses not recommended for children below 6 moths
Contra-indications: Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions: Hypersensitivity to penicillin’s. Severe renal impairment.
Pediatrics: Safety unto 6 months age not established.
Pregnancy: Use with caution.
Lactation: Use with caution.
Side Effects: G-I disturbances, Headaches, dizziness. Rashes.
Drug interaction: Salicylic acid & probenecid.
