CEFEPIME: It is prototypic agent of new class of fourth generation cephalosporin’s which offers more stability against bets-lactometers and greater penetration in bacterial cell wall. As it has high affinity for penicillin binding proteins, it exerts antimicrobial effect by attaching to them & disrupting the cell wall synthesis.

Indication : Gynecological and moderate to severe into abdominal infections post surgery, in acute pelvic infections, bactericidal, septicemia, lower respiratory tract infection, severe pneumonia, febrile neutorpenis, acute leukemia, urinary tract infections (UTI).

Dosage: In Moderate to severe Pneumonia: for pediatrics: 50mg/kg dose IV for 12 hours for 10 days and for adults: 1 to 2 gm IV for 12 hours for 10days. In pediatric dose 50mg/kg dose and for adults 2g IV respectively every 8 hours continue for 7 days/resolution of Neutrogena. Urinary Tract infection : For pediatrics dose 50mg/kg/dose IV every 12 hours for 7 to 10days and for adult 0.5g to 1g IV and every 12 hours for 7 to 10days. In skin and skin structure infections: For pediatric dose 50mg/kg/dose and for adults 2 g respectively IV every 12 hours for 10 days. In into abdominal infections the adult dose is 2g IV every 12 hors for 7 to 10days.

Contraindications: Contraindicated in patients having a history of allergy to cephalosporins.

Side -effects:Anaphylaxis, prorates, rash fever

Drug Interactions: No clinical significant interaction have been reported
