GENTAMICIN:Potent antibiotic having a broader spectrum of action against Ps. aerations and most strains of protease, E. coli. Klebsiella, Nitrobacteria, Serration.
Indications: Valuable in critically ill patients, with impaired host defense. Pseudomonas or Proteus infections, burns, urinary tract infections. Tong abscesses, Osteomyelitis, middle ear infection septicemia, Meningitis caused by gram negative bacilli.
Dosage: 3-5 mg/kg body wt I’m. Or ivy. daily in 3 divided dose for 7 to 10 days.
Contra-indications: Uremia, severe renal function impairment: pregnancy: neonates (except in life threatening situations).
Special Precautions: Dose of genomic must be precisely calculated according to body we and level of renal function
Pediatrics: Reduced dose necessary.
Elderly: Reduced dose may be necessary due to adverse effects
Side effects: Irreversible too toxicity, nephrotoxicity, headache, rashes, thrombocytopenia and joint pain.
Drug interaction: Increased incidence of totooxicity when combined with eathcrynic acid, risk of loss of hearing/kidney failure Cephalosporin’s hydrocortisone & indomethacin potential ephod toxicity, potentate’s neuromuscular blocking agents.
