CARBENICILIN: It is active against pseudomonas aeurginosa and insole positive protease witch are not inhibited by antibiotics other than gentamicin and polymeric B. It is neither penicillin’s resistant or acid resistant.
Indications: Septicemia. Urinary and respiratory tact infections, infected burns. Generalized systemic infections. Endocarditic, meningitis, Post operative infections.
Dosage: Adults: 1-2 gm I’m. Or 1-5 gm ivy. every 46 hours
Children: 50-400 mg/kg body us daily in divided doses.
Contra-Indications: Penicillin allergy.
Special Precautions: Possible super infection. Bleeding disorders, Monitor electrolyte, eaematopoietc and cardiac status, Adjust sue in renal impairment.
Pediatrics: Safety not clearly established.
Pregnancy: Safety not clearly established.
Lactation: Use with caution.
Elderly: safe.
Side-effect: G.I. disturbances.
Drug Interactions: Hypocalcaemia if digitalis is administered concomitantly. Effective combination in high dose with amino glycosides. Probenecid prologs half-life of carbenicillin.
