CEFAZOLIN SODIUM: A potent, broad spectrum, bactericidal semi synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic for potential administration, in lyophilized from.
LYOPHILIZED drug is stable for at least 23 years when stored at room temperature (25oC). After reconstitution, the solution should be stored in a refrigerator and used witching 69 hours. It stored at room temperature then within 24 hors.
Indication : Respiratory tract infection, post operative chest infections, emphysema and lung abscess, Urinary tract factions (Pyle nephritis).obits media and mastoiditis, peritonitis and wound infection septicemia, whether gram-positive or gram-negative Endocarditic, gynecological and obstetrical infection )septic abortion, uterine and neonatal infection, pelvic abscess). Gonorrhea or syphilis. Bone and joint infections (steomylitis and septic arthritis). Especially useful in billiard tract infection
Dosage: Adults: 500-1gm I’m. Or ivy. 6-8 hourly
Children: below 1month not commended; others 25-50 mg/kg body we daily in 3-4 divided dose by either I’m. Or ivy.
Contra -indications: Patients with know allergy to cephalosporin group. Pseudo membranous colitis. Use in premature and infants under 1 months of age has not been established.
Special Precautions: Hypersensitivity to penicillin’s impaired renal function.
Pediatrics; Safety in infants in less than 1 months not established.
Pregnancy: Safe
Lactation: Use with caution.
Elderly: safe
Side effects: G.I.T upsets allergic reactions, depressed heamatopiesis, transient reset of SGPT, BUN, SGOT, Perinea prorates, candidacies, convulsions, eosinophilia, thrombocythemia.
Drug Interactions: Concurrent use of caphazoline and arsenide increase risk of nephrotoxicity. Potentates neprrotoxicity produced by amino glycosides Prothromibin time prolonged by cephazoline and caution necessary if use with anticoagulants. Probenecid blocks tubular secretion of cephazolin thereby prolonging half-life.
