Recommanded drugs
Indication: Alternative to penicillin in hypersensitive
patient; campylobacter enteritis, pneumonia, legionnaires' disease,
syphilis, non-gonococal urethritis, chronic prostatits, diphtheria
and whooping cough prophylaxis; acne vulgaries and rosace.
Cautions: hepatic and renal impairment; prolongation
of QT interval (ventricular tachycardia reported; porphyria; pregnancy
(not known to be harmful) and breast-feedings (only small amounts
in milk); Interaction: Appendix 1 (erythromycin and other macrolides).
Side-Effects: nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort,
diarrhea (antibiotic-associated colitis reported); urticara, rashes
and other allergic reactions; reversible hearing loss reported
after large doses; chloestatic jaundice, cardiac effects (including
chest pain and arrhythmias), myasthenia-like syndrome, Stevens-Johnson
syndrome, and toxic epidermal necrolysis also reported.
Dose: By mouth, ADULT and CHILD over years,
250-500 mg every 6 hours or 05-1gm every 12 house (see notes above);
up to 4 g daily in server infection; CHILD up to 2 years 125 mg
every to 6 hours, 2-8 years 250 mg every 6 hours, doses doubled
for severe infections.
Early syphilis, 500 mg 4 times daily for 14 days Uncomplicated
genital chalmudia, non-gonococcal urethritis, 500mg twice daily
for14 days.
USES
Treatment of infections responsive to erythromycin.
HOW TO TAKE
Tablet or Capsules - Swallow with liquid. You many chew or crush.
Extended- release tablets or capsules-Swallow each dose whole.
Oral suspension-Shake well before using. Use dropper supplied
with prescription or uses a specially marked measuring spoon to
measure dose.
WHEN TO TAKE
At the same times each day, 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating.
May be taken with food if stomach upset occurs.
IF YOU FORGET A DOSE
If you take 3 or more doses daily - Take as soon as you remember.
Return to regular schedule. If you take 2 doses daily- Take as
soon as you remember. Wait 5 to 6 hours for next dose. Return
to regular schedule.
WHAT DRUG DOSE
Prevents growth and reproduction of susceptible bacteria.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS
PREGNANCY
Decide with your doctor if drug benefits justly risk to unborn
child. Risk category C.
BREAST - FEEDING
Drug passes into milk. Avoid drug or discontinue nursing until
you finish medicines. Consult doctor for advice on maintaining
milk supply.
INFANTS & CHILDREN
Use only under medical supervision.
OTHER
Advise any doctor or dentist whom you consult that you take this
medicine.
