Celecoxib
Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with Cox-2 selectivity Cox-2 is an enzyme has been implicated in the inflammatory response. Preferential inhibition of Cox-2 over Cox-1 isoenzyme provides and favourable safety profile. Predominantly hepatic metabolism.
INDICATIONS : Rheumatoid arthritis, osteo-arthritis.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity of celecoxib, hypersensitivity to sulphonamides, other NSAIDs including aspirin.
SAFETY PROFILE : Elderly, patients with history of Gl ulceration and Gl bleed, hepatic & renal dysfunction, Not recommended in children.
ADVERSE EFFECTS: Nausea, sinusitis, headache diarrhoea, rhinitis, abdominal pain, dyspepsia
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Not known
DOSAGE: Osteo-arthritis:- 200 mg per day in single or two divided doses.
Rheumatoid arthritis :- 100-200 mg twice a day.
