It is a Tricyclic anti depressants.
Indications: Depression, Anxiety associated with depression.
Contradictions : Acute myocardial infraction, hypersensitivity, Epilepsy, hepatic failure, neonates, mania, heart block, cardiac arrhythmias, alcohol, other CNS depressants, severe liver disease, prostate disease.
Safety Profile: Epilepsy, hypertension, glaucoma, urinary retention, gradual withdrawal.
Adverse Effects : Bone marrow depression and agranulocytosis, ventricular fibrillation and renal failure cholestatic jaundice, exacerbation of Psychotic mani-festation, dry mouth, tachycardia, constipation, drowsiness, tremor, skin rashes, insomnia, cardiac arrhythmias.
Drug Interactions: Same as imipramine.
Dosage: Adults: Initially 75mg daily in divided doses or as a single dose at night. Increasing to 150mg with caution & under close supervision. Maintenance dose: 150mg as a single dose at night.
