It is a soluble complex of iodine with large molecular organic compound that serve as carrier-release free iodine slowly. Povidone-iodine is non irritating, non toxic, non-staining and exerts prolonged germicidal actions.
INDICATIONS: Burns. Ulcers. Boils. Impetigo. Furunculosis. Sycosis barbae. Otitis externa. Paronychia. Tinea infestations. Cutaneous candidosis.
SOLUTION: Herpes. Topical treatment of moniliasis. Trichomoniasis. Non-specific vaginitis.
SCRUB: Pre-operative hand scrubbing. Degering of operative site.
DOSAGE: Apply once daily or as required & cover the wound. For burns: Apply 8 hrly & cover.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS: Hypersensitivitiy to iodine. History of abnormal thyroid function or goiter.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: Irriation, redness or swelling develops –discontinue, Prolong use, thyroid dysfunction may develop.
Paediatrics: Use with caution.
Pregnancy & Lactation: Contraindicated.
Elderly: Safe.
SIDE-EFFECTS: Sensitivity reaction, hypernatremia and renal impairment, prolonged causes thyroid skin may produce systemic effects due to iodine absorption.
