SUCCINYLCHOLINE CHLORIDE: It is a depolarizing short acting neuromuscular blocking agent for intravenous administration.

Indications: Tracheal intubations, short operations, orthopedic, manipulation, electrovonvulsive, therapy and closure of the peritoneum. Prolonged musular relaxation in surgery can be attained by means of reputed injections of the drug by continuous intravenous drip.

Dosage : 20mg (0.4ml) to 100mg (2ml) intubations : 50mg (1ml) to 80 mg (1.6ml) Electroconvulsive therapy : 40mg (0.8ml) to 75mg (1.5ml0
Manipulation: 80mg (1.6ml)

For administration by continuous i.v. drip a 0.1% soln may be prepared by mixing 10ml injection of succinylcholine chloride with 500ml of 5% glucose or isotonic sodium chloride. The adult dose ranges from 2 to 5mg per minutes.

Contra indications Patients know to have a typical serum pseudo cholinesterase or low serum levels of pseudo-cholinesterase. Myasthenia gravis Maystheenic syndorme hyperkalmia. Glaucome Opthalamic cases when the anterior chamber of the eye is open Premature infants and new born babies

Special Precautions: Severe burns pregnancy it should not be administered until the anesthetic has taken full effect. Hepatic or renal failure
Pediatrics: Use with caution in age under 8 years and the male sex.
Pregnancy: Use if clearly indicated
Lactation: Use with caution
Elderly: No absolute contraindication

Side effects: Muscle pain malignant hyperpyrexia, Myoglobinuria hypersensitivity fever bronochos pasm transient rise in intra-ocular pressure and salivary gland englargemetn.

Drug Interactions: Neuromuscular blocking action poteniated by promazine, oxytocin quindine beta blockers, lignocaine procainamide lithum magnesium salts chloroquin isoflurane insecticieds antinoplastic antimatarial drugs may result in low level of pseudocholineserase.
