PQLYSACCHAFTIDE TYPHOID VACCINE: Vaccine prepared from purified Vi capsular poly saccha-ride of Salmonella typhi. Immunity appears about 7-15 days after injection. Duration of protection is of atleast 3 years. The protection level observed in endemic areas is about 60%.
Indications: Prevention of typhoid fever for adults and children over 5 years old. Dosage:0ne single dose Injection of 0.5ml(sub-cutaneous or intra-muscuJar) ensures protection.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity, pregnancy, children below 5 years.
Special precautions: Does not afford protection against Salmonella paratyphi A or B.ln event of fever,acute infection, it is preferable to delay the vaccination
Side Effects : Slight local pain. rise in temperature, rash.
