Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) disease is caused by a bacteria. It’s a serious disease that generally attacks children under the age of 5 years.

A child gets Hib disease from other persons who have the bacteria but not aware of this. Haemophilus influenzae type b spreads from one person to another.

If the germ of Haemophilus influenzae type b live in a child's throat, nose, the child may not get sick. But when the germs of Haemophilus influenzae type b reaches the lungs or the bloodstream, it can pasue as a major threat.

Hib disease can also cause:

• severe swelling in the throat
• pneumonia
• infections of joints, bones, blood and covering of the heart

Technical detail:

DOSAGE: Before the age of 6 months: 0.5 ml at 6,10,14 weeks followed by a booster 12 months after last injection.

Children not vaccinated before 6 months of age: 2 dose and booster 12 months after 2nd dose. Children not vaccinated before 1 year of age: 1 dose.
